Step One.

Time and time again I have seen people shoot nasty comments towards Tess Holliday for her provocative and sexy photos on Facebook. Of course they attack her about her weight and the way her body folds, but the comments that bother me the most are directed at her…MAKEUP! They say things like “You say you have a special place in the modeling industry because you’re a plus size woman, but instead of being body-positive, you wear layers of makeup on your face.”

She has posted “Naked-face” selfies and she is still beautiful. So are these people claiming to be body positive are smashing her for something else… It just doesn’t make sense to me.

Makeup does not make you beautiful. Makeup might make you feel more confident and beautiful though. Guess what? That is okay! Makeup is a great first step in feeling confident enough to wear dresses or shorts… or even a bikini! *gasp*

I am (almost) 24 years young and I still like to play with makeup. I like to apply crazy amounts of eye-shadow and eye-liner. I have recently began toying around with lipsticks (I’m still not sure I am a fan). I also recently learned to use bronzer and blush. It’s fun.

Learning to apply makeup was the first step to loving myself…

Sincerely,
Fat Girl

I have noticed that besides 50 Random Things About Me, I haven’t really revealed much about me. As part of my body positive initiative, I want to explore the steps I had to take to get to this point.

  1. I’m getting SO SICK of people trying to police women’s bodies. If it’s not because of their weight it’s because of their hair or make-up. It’s RIDICULOUS. There are so many other issues we have to be concerned with to worry about what a celebrity (or just a regular Josephine like me) does with their face. If you want to wear make-up, wear make-up. If it makes you feel more sexy and beautiful, that’s on you. If you’re like me and feel like you look like a clown in make-up, you don’t have to wear it. If you want to change your mind and give it a try (like I’m thinking of doing…) we should be able to do it without having to explain ourselves or answer to ANYONE.
